Work Up

Warm-up calculator · plate loader

Every warm-up, and what goes on the bar.

Type your top set. Work Up plans the warm-ups to it and shows exactly which plates go on and come off, each side — using the plates your gym actually has. Built for the squat, bench and deadlift.

Work Up on set 4 of 7 of a squat: 135 kg for 1 to 2 reps. Take off the 20 and 2.5, add a 25 and a 5, each side. The bar is drawn loaded, with the next sets listed below.
A barbell sleeve loaded for 142.5 kg: two red 25 kg plates, a white 5, a black 2.5 and a 1.25, then the collar.

How it works

Three screens between you and your top set.

The Lifts screen: squat 180 kg, bench 125 kg and deadlift 220 kg, each with a Work up button and its warm-ups.
01

Type your top set

One number for each lift. Work Up keeps it, along with the last jump you like to take before it — 10 kg unless you say otherwise.

Warm-ups to a 180 kg single: 20 kg for 6 to 10, 90 kg for 5, 120 kg for 3 and 135 kg for 1 to 2, each drawn on the bar with its plates.
02

Read the plan

Seven sets to 180 kg: the empty bar, five warm-ups and your single. Every set shows its reps and the plates on each side, drawn on the bar.

The Timeline: squat 180 kg today, deadlift 220 kg on Tuesday, bench 125 kg on Monday, each with its sets from the empty bar up.

Lift, and it's logged

Next set records the one you just did. Your timeline groups every session by day, one row per lift, with the clip if you filmed it.

The warm-up formula

Warm-ups to a 180 kg squat.

The default is a coach's ramp: the empty bar, then 50% of your top set for five, then 70, 80 and 92.5% of your last warm-up — which sits 10 kg under the top set. Every weight rounds to 2.5 kg, and every one is a loading your plates can make.

6170kg125 · 25 · 20 · 2.5 last warm-up
7180kg125 · 25 · 25 · 2.5 top set

On a 20 kg bar with 2.5 kg collars. Between sets 4 and 5 that is: take off the 5, add a 15 and a 1.25. Work Up tells you that change, not the whole bar again.

Five warm-ups suits most lifters. Set how many you want, the percentages, whether each is of the top set or the last warm-up, the rep ranges and the final jump — per lift, or just for today.

Built for the platform

Made for a gym floor, not a spreadsheet.

Your plates, not a generic set

Tell it how many pairs of each plate you own and what colour they are. It never plans a loading you can't make, and never rounds your top set to one you didn't ask for.

Kilos or pounds

Switch units in Kit, and set the bar and collar weights your gym uses. The empty bar is just the bar; the collars go on with the first plate.

Warm-ups your way

A default for each lift, and an override for today. Back to your default in one tap, or keep today's version as the new one.

Film the set that matters

On iPhone, record a set or link a clip from Photos. The video stays in your library, next to the weight and the date it was lifted.

Your data stays yours

No account and no server copy. Back everything up to one file, restore it on a new phone, and export any stretch of your history as a CSV.

No signal needed

The fonts, the plate photographs and the maths all live on your phone, so it works in a basement gym with no reception.

Kit: units in kg, a 20 kg bar, 2.5 kg collars, and plates from 25 down to 0.25 kg, each with its colour and number of pairs.

Questions

Before your first session.

How does Work Up work out my warm-up sets?

You type your top set. By default Work Up plans the empty bar, then 50% of your top set for five, then 70, 80 and 92.5% of your last warm-up, which sits 10 kg under the top set. Every weight is rounded to 2.5 kg (5 lb) and is always one your plates can make. The count, the percentages, the reps and the last jump can all be changed per lift.

Does Work Up work in pounds?

Yes. Switch between kg and lb in Kit, and set the bar and collar weights your gym uses. In pounds, weights round to 5 lb.

What if my gym doesn't have small plates?

Tell Work Up which plates you own and how many pairs of each. It only plans weights those plates can make, and it never rounds your top set to one you didn't ask for.

Can I change the warm-ups for just one session?

Yes. Open Warm-ups and choose Edit warm-ups. Today's changes leave your default alone; you can go back to your default, or save today's version as the new one.

Where is my training data stored?

On your phone, and nowhere else. There is no account and no server copy. Kit has Back up and Restore, so you can keep everything in a single file and put it back on a new phone.

Is there an iPhone app?

Yes. The iPhone app is in beta: join it on TestFlight. It can film a set or link a clip from Photos. On Android or a computer, open the web app and add it to your home screen.

Is Work Up free?

Yes. It is free to use, with no account and no ads.
